Careers Vision

Our students have unlimited ideas and dreams and aspire to be more. They recognise that their academic progress will influence their choice filled lives with a clear vision of what they want achieve in life and how to achieve it.

Year 7 Discover and Grow Your Mind (Developing Awareness)

Careers Education, as part of the PSHE curriculum, begins in Year 7, introducing students to CATA, school values and the LORIC skills.

Year 8 Explore and Expand your Horizon

Students begin to learn about career pathways through the school’s careers programme, which includes educational visits.

Visits to colleges and universities, promote Further and Higher Education through the Academy of Excellence programme.

Year 9 Inspiration and Pathways (Unlocking My Potential)

In Year 9 there is more emphasis on career exploration as students choose their option subjects for GCSE.

Early in the Spring Term, the students have guidance interviews in small groups with a qualified impartial Careers Advisor, to help with the decision-making process. This is followed by an Options Market Place, during the evening, to give students and parents the opportunity to discuss choices with subject teachers, and the Careers Advisor and local college teams also attend.

Year 10 Experience and Raising (My Game Being The Best You)

All Year 10 pupils are required to participate in a one-week work experience placement. Placements come from a wide range of commercial, public service and industrial organisations. Students are encouraged to find aspirational placements, which can link into their future career choice.

A whole day of Careers Education, Advice and Guidance takes place during the Spring Term. Business leaders from the local community attend to give talks, mock interviews take place, to enhance and strengthen communication skills, and students learn about the softer skills needed in the workplace.

College and university tasters are also offered throughout Year 10, so that students can begin exploring their options and make informed choices.

Eligible students are encouraged to apply to take part in UniFest residential university placements.

Year 11 Apply And Be Ready For The Next Step

By the age of 16, every student will have received at least one interview with an impartial, qualified Careers Advisor.

Following the Mock GCSEs, including a results event with the Careers Team present, a slot is allocated in January, where our students are supported in making their application to college online.

Y11 Students are encouraged to join the NCS Programme to enhance their CV and interview skills https://wearencs.com/
