Welcome from the Principal

Welcome to Birches Head Academy. As one of the most improved schools in the City, I am proud of our students and their many achievements.

This summer our students celebrated academic success; a just reward for their hard work and determination to succeed. This determination, alongside the dedication of talented and inspirational staff, enabled us to see an overall increase in the proportion of grades at grade 4.

Our most recent Ofsted Inspection described us as a ‘rapidly improving Academy’ and this year’s results demonstrate that we have built a firm foundation on which to grow. This is a new and exciting chapter in the school’s history. Ofsted also recognised our strong pastoral care. This individual level of care is made possible due to our strong pastoral system with dedicated Pastoral Leaders. Our developing academic success is also a result of the values we instil in our students; to develop confidence, resilience, self-respect and a sense of responsibility. We actively encourage our children to celebrate success and foster a sense of pride in themselves and the school.

We are keen to develop a sense of adventure through our Be More Curriculum including educational visits and residential experiences. We prepare our students to become good citizens and provide leadership opportunities through student council elections, ‘job style’ applications for Student Leadership positions and anti-bullying ‘Be Kind’ student mentors. Our students are prepared early for success in the wider community through our annual careers convention which is well attended by local colleges, employers and universities. We encourage our students to aspire to become young professionals through residential experiences at universities all over the country. Our students are able to take advantage of our excellent links with local companies such as Emma Bridgewater, KMF Engineering and Patera Engineering to gain a valuable insight into the industrial world.

I strongly believe that the key to success for our students is a strong partnership between home and school ensuring that their time at Birches Head Academy is happy, fulfilling and academically successful. My ambition is to see every child leave Birches Head Academy as a well-rounded, responsible citizen. If this is a vision you share and would like your child to become part of our growing community please feel welcome to contact the School Office to arrange a visit.
