Birches Head Academy (BHA) is pleased to share its most recent Ofsted monitoring inspection report, which took place on 24 and 25 February 2026. The school received positive feedback regarding its ongoing improvements and commitment to providing a high standard of education.
The report acknowledged the school’s dedication to addressing previous recommendations, particularly in areas such as attendance. Inspectors found that “Pupils’ attendance has continued to rise. The attendance of disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND has improved significantly. The school has increased capacity in the attendance team and as a result, the work to improve pupils’ attendance has become more focused.”
The report highlighted the progress in positive behaviour across the school, with mention that “The school’s behaviour culture has continued to improve. Lessons are typically calm, enabling pupils to focus on their learning. Incidences of bullying or discrimination have reduced significantly, and pupils are confident that such issues would be dealt with effectively by most staff.”
The monitoring inspection focused on the school’s progress since its last monitoring inspection in January 2025, and while it was not a full grading inspection, inspectors noted several areas of positive development.
The report acknowledged “Leadership has been stable since the previous monitoring inspection…” adding “Leaders have continued to focus appropriately on improving attendance, developing the positive behaviour culture, ensuring that the curriculum is implemented effectively and supporting new middle and senior leaders.”
The school’s commitment to continuous improvement was also highlighted. Inspectors noted “Clear progress has been made in responding to the weaknesses identified in the school’s last graded inspection.”
Inspectors also noted “Those responsible for governance carry out their responsibilities with rigour and pragmatism.”
In the previous graded and monitoring inspections, safeguarding was evaluated as being effective.

Since the last inspection in January 2025, staff and pupils have worked exceptionally hard to drive improvement, and we are proud of the progress we have made. We remain ambitious for our pupils and committed to achieving excellence in all areas of school life.”
