Matilda Jr. The Musical: Meet the Cast!

Stoke-on-Trent will be filled by the smell of rebellion when Birches Head Academy presents Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR, it was announced today by Drew Cohen, president and Chief Executive Officer of Music Theatre International.

Based on the beloved book “Matilda” by Roald Dahl and adapted from the award-winning full-length musical, Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. tells the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

Mechanic

My name is Harrison and I’m in Year 9. I play the Mechanic, a role that I think Cynthia Erivo would be good in. Working on this show is lots of fun, I’m really enjoying rehearsals. My favourite line from the show is “sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty!” If I could play any other character, I’d like to play the part of Matilda. My dream role on stage is Elphaba from Wicked. My favourite show is Superstore on Netflix. My favourite actor is Zendeya who has starred in many movies and TV shows including Spider-Man and The Greatest Showman.

The Escapologist

My name is Logan and I’m in Year 11. I play the Escapologist; I like his showmanship and loyalty. I’d like to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson playing this character. If I could play any other part, I’d like to have a go as Miss Trunchbull. I love the songs in this show and my favourite line is “Quick! Blazers!” My dream role on stage would be Alexander Hamilton, or a stage adaptation of John Marston from Red Dead Redemption. My favourite show is ‘How I met Your Mother’ and my favourite actor is Michael J. Fox. When I grow up, I’d like to be an actor or a programmer.

Miss Honey

My name is Summer and I’m in Year 10. I play the part of Miss Honey. There’s so much you can do with the role of Miss Honey, she has moments of comedy such as in the line ”Go on Brucie, yes, yes!” Then other moments where she really gains control. If I could play any other part I’d like to star as Matilda.  I really like seeing the show come together and watching everyone work so well as a team, we are making something on a script into a great performance. My dream role on stage would be to play Regina George who is the main antagonist of the film Mean Girls. I have a few favourite shows, Heathers, Wicked, Matilda and Once Upon A Time. My favourite actress is Ariana Grande. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Adele Adkins or Taylor Swift star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be a secondary school teacher, I’d love to teach Music and English.

Mrs Phelps

My name is Freya and I’m in Year 10. In Matilda, I play Mrs Phelps. I love her personality; she is very happy and enthusiastic about everything. I love it when I get to speak, because I get to really become the character. My favourite line from the show is “well, I’d better hang around just in case they start to squeeze out of your ears. I’m Lavender. And I think it’s probably for the best if we’re best friends”. If I could play any other part in the show, I’d like to play Lavender. My favourite show is Black Panther. When I grow up, I’d like to be an author or an early year’s educator.

Eric

My name is Finlay and I’m in Year 10. I play the part of Eric, my favourite thing about this character is that he is very kind and honest. If I could see anyone famous star as Eric, I’d pick Dwayne Johnson. My favourite line from the show is “Well, I’d better hang around just in case they start to squeeze out of your ears. I’m Lavender. And I think it’s probably for the best if we’re best friends”. If I could play any other character in this show I’d like to play Miss Trunchbull. I’m really enjoying the story of Matilda.  My dream role on stage would be to play the part of Aladdin. My favourite actress is Jenna Ortega and favourite actor is Tom Cruise. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Tom Holland star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be an actor.

Mrs Wormwood

My name is Danielle and I’m in Year 8. I star as Mrs Wormwood, I love the clothes that she wears. If I could pick a famous person to star as this character, I’d pick Ariana Grande. My favourite line from the show is “Why on Earth have you done that, you stupid man!” If I could play another character in this show I’d like to play Miss Honey. I’m really enjoying working on Matilda, the group of people working together are all kind and helpful.  My dream role on stage is Elphaba from Wicked. My favourite show is Hunger Games. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Summer from Year 10 star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to work in performing arts.

Matilda

My name is Siena and I’m in Year 11. I star as Matilda, and I love how strong willed she is. I think Jenna Coleman or Amanda Seyfried would be great in this role. It’s been a great show to work on, I’ve loved the characters and the teamwork from all the cast and crew. My favourite line from the show is ‘Annnnnd then she died.’. If I could play any other character in this show I’d choose Miss Honey. My dream role on stage is Anastasia from Anastasia or Eponine from Les Misérables. My favourite show is Starlight Express. My favourite actor is Philippa Soo who played Eliza in Hamilton. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Jenna Ortega from Star Wars as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be a music therapist or a music journalist.

Bruce

My name is Lea and I’m in Year 11. In this show, I play the part of Bruce. I love how this character has a comeback towards the end of the show. Playing Bruce would actually be my dream role on stage, so I’m delighted with this role. If I could play any other part in this show, I’d like to play Miss Trunchbull. My favourite show at the moment is My Love Story, and my favourite actor is The Rock. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see my best friend star as me.

Mr Wormwood

My name is Namo and I’m in Year 11. In Matilda, I play the part of Mr Wormwood. Things I love about this character are his green hair, his sticky top hat, and also the way Michael follows him everywhere! I’d really like to see Rowan Atkinson, who is my favourite actor, play this role. I’ve got a couple of favourite lines in the show, firstly “Stupid, nasty, question-asking Russians!” and also “I’ve got my eye on you, boy!”. When Miss Trunchbull gets really frustrated, I find this really funny, it’s my favourite part of the show. If I could play any other part, I’d like to play Nigel. My ideal role on stage is to play a funny, clumsy character who’s always confused. A bit like Mr Bean! If someone made my life into a movie, I’d like to see Jeff Bezos, executive chairman of Amazon star as me.

Rudolpho

My name is Dorian and I’m in Year 7. In Matilda, I play the part of Rudolpho, which is a fun part to play and he’s a good dancer. I’d like to see JoJo Siwa star in this role. Matilda the musical is my all time favourite! I love the singing and dancing. My favourite line from the show is “Leave him along, you big fat bully!”. If I could play any other part in the show, I’d like to play the part of Bruce, which would be my dream role on stage. When I grow up, I’d like to play basketball.

Lavender

My name is Mona and I’m in Year 8. In this show I play the part of Lavender who is a very mischievous character. I’d really like to see Ariana Grande star in this role. My favourite line from the show is “There’s a newt in my knickers!”. I love all of the singing in the show. If I could have played any other part, I’d liked to have been Matilda. My dream role on stage would be to play Veronica Sawyer from Heathers. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Jenna Ortega star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be a Broadway star.

Tommy

My name is Gabriel and I’m in Year 9. I play the part of Tommy. My favourite line from the show is “My Daddy says I’m a special little guy!”. I’ve really enjoyed working on this show, the atmosphere has been great and everybody gets on well. When I grow up, I’d like to be a professional dancer, and also a choreographer working with celebrities.

Nigel

My name is Joe and I’m in Year 11. I play the part of Nigel, who is a bubbly, funny character. I’d like to see Joe Locke star in this role. I’ve really enjoyed working on this show, I’ve made new friends and built relationships. My favourite line has to be “Leave him alone you big fat bully!”. My favourite show is Wicked, and I would absolutely love to star in Wicked the Musical. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Kit Connor star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be a musician and create my own music.

Amanda Thripp

My name is Layla and I’m in Year 11. I play the part of Amanda Thripp, who is really cute and innocent. I think Emma Watson would be perfect in this role. Matilda is my favourite show, it’s creative and catchy and I’m very happy to be part of it. My favourite line from the show is “But my Mummy likes pigtails”. If I could play any other part in this show, I’d like to play the part of Lavender. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see my favourite actor Johnny Depp star as me. When I grow up I’d like to work with animals.

Hortensia

My name is Mina and I’m in Year 11. I play the part of Hortensia who is very cheeky and has some funny lines. If I could play another role in Matilda, I’d like to play either Miss Honey or Bruce. It’s been so much fun working on this show. My dream role on stage would be to play the part of Regina, the main antagonist of Mean Girls. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Jack Black star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be an actor or a lawyer.

Sergei

My name is Oscar and I play Sergei, a character with some very interesting views. Sergei is my favourite character, so I am very happy to be playing him. My favourite line is “I have hair.” My dream role would be Shrek in Shrek the musical. My favourite show is Avengers: Endgame and my favourite actor is Adam Sandler. When I grow up, I’d like to get into politics.

Alice

My name is Emily and I play Alice. I like that she gets to sing a lot. If I could play any other part, I’d play Lavendar as she is a very mischievous character. My dream role on stage is Anabeth in a stage version of Percy Jackson. My favourite line in the show is “My mother thinks that I’m an angel sent down from the sky.” My favourite show is Wicked and my favourite actor is Ariana Grande. When I grow up, I’d like to be an artist.

Acrobat

My name is Miruna and I’m in Year 10. I play the part of Acrobat. I’d like to see Rhea Pearlman from Cheers star in this role. If I could pick another part to play, I’d like to be Mrs Wormwood, which would be my dream role on stage. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see my Mum star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be a designer.

Ensemble

My name is Gracie-May and I’m in Year 9 and I’m part of the ensemble. If I could pick a famous person take on this part, I’d pick Emma Watson. If I could pick any other part to play in this show, I’d love to star as Matilda. I just love how funny this show is. My favourite show of all time is Prison Break. My favourite actress is Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things and my favourite actor is Tom Felton who played Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Jenna Ortega star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be an actress, a lawyer or an architect.

My name is Faith and I’m in Year 10. I love being part of the ensemble as I can freely express myself through singing and dancing. If I could pick a famous person to play this part, I’d pick Riele Downs who starred in Henry Danger. If I could play any other part, I’d like to star as Lavender. My favourite line from the show is “How do all those brains fit in your head?”. I love the music and the dancing in this show. My dream role on stage would be to play Elphaba from Wicked, which is my favourite show. My favourite actress is Dove Cameron who found fame on Disney Channel’s comedy series Liv and Maddie. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see Marsai Martins who starred in Black-ish star as me. When I grow up, I’d like to be a surgeon.

My name is Paige and I’m in Year 10. I like being part of the ensemble as I can dance! My favourite line from the show is “I’ve got a newt in my knickers!” If I could play any other character from this show, I’d like to play Miss Trunchbull. My favourite show is Waterloo Road and my favourite actor is Benedict Cumberbatch. When I grow up, I’d like to be a footballer.

My name is Isaac and I’m in Year 7. I’m really enjoying being part of the ensemble. If I could play any other part in this show, I’d like to play the part of Bruce. My favourite scene in the play is the school gymnasium scene. My favourite line from the show is “I’ve got a newt in my knickers!”. My dream role on stage would be to star as Harry Potter. If my life was made into a movie, I’d cast Justin Timberlake to star as me. When I grow up, I want to be a singer or an actor.

My name is Roman and I’m in Year 9. In Matilda Jr, I play the parts of a Dad and also a big kid. I’ve really enjoyed working on this production.  If I could choose to play another character from the show, I’d pick to play the Escapologist, which would actually be my dream role on stage. When I grow up, I’d like to be an actor.

My name is Nelly and I’m in Year 9. In Matilda Jr, I play the parts of a Mum and a kid. My dream role on stage would be to star as Matilda. I’ve really enjoyed working on this show, and I love that it helps towards my Duke of Edinburgh award. If my life was made into a movie, I’d like to see my favourite actress Madelyn Cline from Outer Banks star as me. When I grow up, I’d really like to join the Police force.

My name is Bella and I’m in Year 7. I love being in the ensemble as all the dances are fun. If I could play any other part, I’d love to play Matilda. My dream role would be Wonder Woman in a stage show. My favourite line is “Oh Cook” because I love how bossy Miss Trunchbull sounds. My favourite show is Superman and Lois, and my favourite actor is Tom Holland. When I grow up, I’d love to be a nail technician.

My name is Krystal and I’m in Year 9. I love being in the ensemble because I enjoy getting to practice more dances. My favourite line in the show is “C’mon Bruce!” as we see Miss Honey breaking the rules. If I could play any other character, I’d like to play Violet because she is a great friend to Matilda. My dream role would be Catherine of Aragon from Six the musical. My favourite show is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and my favourite actor is Millie Bobbie Brown. When I grow up, I’d love to be an artist.
