Detentions
In our continuous efforts to improve the learning environment and foster positive behaviour among our pupils, we have decided to simplify the detention process. Previously, detentions were assigned by various members of staff, through subject or social time issues. However, we have now centralised the process, ensuring that all detentions are completed in the dining hall.
Under the new system, detentions will be based on the accumulation of negative points throughout the current day.
This will allow us to address any behavioural concerns promptly and consistently. The purpose of these detentions is to provide pupils with an opportunity to reflect on their actions and make amends.
To clarify, here is the breakdown of how detentions will be accumulated:
- -10 points will result in a 20-minute detention
- -15 points will result in a 30-minute detention
- -20 points will result in a 40-minute detention
- -25 points will result in a 50-minute detention
- -30 points will result in a 60-minute detention
- -35 points will result in a 70-minute detention
- -40 points will result in a 80-minute detention
- -45 points will result in a 90-minute detention
We believe that this new system will provide a fair and consistent approach to addressing behavioural issues within our school community. Detentions will now be completed on the same day they are assigned, ensuring that pupils have an immediate opportunity to reflect on their actions and take responsibility.
Furthermore, communication regarding detentions will be made through our school communication system, School Comms, on the same day. This will enable us to keep parents informed about any detentions and provide an opportunity for dialogue between home and school.
We kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of positive behaviour and the consequences of negative actions with your child. By working together, we can create a supportive and productive learning environment that allows all pupils to thrive.
