Transition

Birches Head Academy has a dedicated Primary Enrichment Programme.  This involves staff from a range of subject areas visiting local primary schools, or inviting schools in to work with us on a range of projects, workshops and bespoke lessons.

This year’s programme includes classes in Art, Music and Science, masterclasses in Maths and English, and ceramics in partnership with Emma Bridgewater, including a factory tour.  Year 6 students who gain a place at our school attend 3 Transition Days in summer term to prepare them for secondary school life, and will also receive a visit in their primary school from our Transition Co-ordinator or a member of the year 7 team.

At the start of each new academic year in September, new year 7 students have their own dedicated induction day to help them feel comfortable and confident about embarking on their secondary education with us.

Year 6 Taster Day

Tuesday 13 September 2016

On Tuesday 13th September over 100 children from Grove Junior School, Abbey Hulton Primary School and Carmountside Primary School attended our Year 6 Taster Day.  The aim of the day was to give students an early experience of secondary school life at Birches Head Academy, one of the most improved schools in the city.  Students took part in lessons in a variety of subjects including Art, Computer Science, Music, PE and Spanish.  The day finished with a showcase for students, parents and carers in the main hall, including live performances, displays, presentations and storytelling.  Students and staff alike enjoyed the day, and we look forward to working together again in the near future.
