Ground-breaking headteacher Roisin Maguire has been left ‘humbled’ after she was awarded an MBE for her services to education.

The mum-of-one, spent 13 years at St Joseph’s College in Trent Vale where she pioneered traditional values, allied to the deployment of the latest classroom technology and methods.

Roisin was able to transform the Catholic college into the city’s first OFSTED ‘Outstanding-rated’ secondary school, before bringing both Thistley Hough and Birches Head Academies out of special measures as executive headteacher.

In her current role, Roisin is the director of education for the Edmund Rice Schools Office based in Hale Barns Cheshire.

“I believe working with young people is the best job in the world and I have enjoyed a wonderful career that needs no reward, though I am deeply honoured to accept.”

Roisin has also been instrumental in raising many millions to help children in war torn and disease stricken Sierra Leone and was a key member of the team with former MP Tristam Hunt to establish the Stoke Maths hub at Keele University to improve the quality of maths teaching in the city.
