The first results show schools across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire East have coped well with the reforms.
More than half the teenagers across North Staffordshire who took brand new GCSEs have made the grade in their exams.
Provisional results show 53.1 per cent of Stoke-on-Trent pupils gained ‘standard’ passes or above in both maths and English this summer. This level – known as a grade 4 – is set at the same threshold as a low to middle C under the old system.
